1996 Pawn to knight
king 4
Cat
Flap was a good idea, but like all good ideas you have to know
when it has had its time. I decided after 9 A4 pages that enough
was enough, so I embarked upon a waste of time that would last
for two years. My excuse is, of course, that I was drunk most
of the time. But that's no excuse.
Witchfinder (Generally) was a badly titled
bad idea gone bad. It
was the story of a miserable witch (Belladonna Foxglove) who
had a friend who was a Jack O'Lantern. Holly and Rick were in
it too, and Kristie sometimes.
In my defence no one was ever meant to read this
pile of old cobblers. It was nice enough to look at at, though
- if only I hadn't scribbled the words on afterwards as an afterthought.
Echoing the revolutionary auteur directors of the 70s (Scorsese,
Bogdanovich, Altman) plot was second to character. Which was
itself second to finishing the strip, sticking it up on my wall
and saying TA-DA!
Note
to aspiring cartoonists: this is not a good example I am setting
here.
